AWC Perth is a member of FAWCO, the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas. FAWCO is an international network of independent clubs and associations comprising 60 member clubs in 31 countries worldwide. Its mission includes building strong networks, improving the lives of women and girls worldwide, advocating for the rights of US citizens overseas, and mobilizing the skills of its membership in support of global initiatives for education, environment, health and human rights. General Meetings occur three times per year, May, August and November, on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00am.
“2nd Tuesday Socials” are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:am, when there is no General Meeting.
Annual General Meeting is held each February.
The November General Meeting will be held at the Cottesloe Civic Center. Details are available in the October newsletter!
Book Club – First Thursday of each month at 10:30am
The AWC Book Club meets at the home of a member to discuss the book of the month, then proceeds to a local restaurant for lunch. The book for October is “This is Going to Hurt“, the secret diaries of a junior Doctor, by Adam Kay. The Bible Study group meets weekly, except during school holidays, at the home of the study leader, every Monday from 10am-noon. For more information, please contact Karen Slavinsky, firstname.lastname@example.org
If you are interested in digging into the Word of God, a group meets every Monday. The study starts with a review of the week’s workbook lesson, followed by a video teaching, closing with a discussion of how this teaching applies to our daily lives. The group is comprised of culturally diverse women who are at different levels in their Christian Walk and in different life stages. Come join this warm and welcoming group of women who desire to have a closer relationship with God!
LaW (Lunch & Wine)
The next LaW event will be announced. Recently, members enjoyed High Tea at “Stewart’s”, in the lovely Swan Valley. For details, please check the newsletter or express interest using the RSVP button below.
The AWC Quilting Club is a great way to turn fellow members into precious, dear friends, while stitching the hours away. Meeting dates are usually each 2nd Friday. Coming meeting dates include: Fridays, September 3rd and 17th, October 1st, commencing at 12:30pm. Venue to be advised.
Other crafters who knit, crochet, cross-stitch, hand embroider, are “welcome” to attend. Bring along your small craft project and join in on the fun. If you want to learn the skill of English Paper Piecing, our master quilter Karrina Mitchell will guide you with the patience, as she did for most of the participants! This newly formed group of avid volunteers gets together to do group projects as they present themselves, and also has its own page to share individual and group volunteer opportunities. Under the direction of Denise Mosley, twelve of our member volunteers recently preparing sandwiches for the homeless at “Perth Homeless Support Group”. Past projects have been preparing afternoon tea for the patients and their families at “Ronald McDonald House” and collecting gently used professional attire to give to the “Dress for Success” Initiative. This group helps to bring together club members who have “remained, endured, persisted, and survived” life in Perth!
Our end-of-July event was a catered lunch at the lovely home of Andrea Reuter on Tuesday 27 July. We had a wonderful turnout of over 22 ladies. Watch this space, Facebook, or check the “Down Under“ newsletter for details of our of our next Longtimers Event scheduled for Thursday 28 October
